Low crowned straw hats were quite popular for children and young women during the mid 1800's (Civil War era.) This plain straw hat is a great base for trimming up in so many ways! I love the look achieved in the third and fourth pictures, of a young woman in a similar, simple style. You can also see the same lines in the final images from period magazines from the 1860's.
